A Cup of Cold Water

TEXT: Matthew 10:42

INTRODUCTION: The Rewards of Refreshing

And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward. A line in “The Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner” says “He prayeth best who loveth best, all things great and small…”  It is easy to love the great things, the big things.  Our culture celebrates power, money,  influence, and  beauty.    But that same culture ignores the small and seemingly insignificant things.  The good mother, the faithful employee, the day laborer, the plain looking, the simply dressed, the common person…these are just faces in the crowd, extras on the movie set, non-essentials in the quest for perfection. {Read More…}

Come on In, the Door is Open!

TEXT:1 CORINTHIANS 16:9-22

INTRODUCTION: Have you ever had a door slammed in your face? Have you ever gone to see someone who didn’t want to see you or welcome you? Most of us have had that experience. He was speaking of the door of opportunity; the door of evangelism; the door of missions. Paul knew that the door was open no matter who opposed Him! So today God has given His church an open door! Doors are open abroad and here at home! {Read More…}

Cheer Up

TEXT: NUM. 13:20

INTRODUCTION
: We live in the midst of a troubled, depressed and downcast world and, unfortunately, this same attitude has crept into the church. When I see some saints, I honestly wonder if they can remember the last good day they ever had and, if they can remember it, their face certainly does not show it. One of the recurring commands of Christ that I find in God’s Word is the command “be of good cheer.” I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT JESUS CHRIST WAS A GLOOMY, DEPRESSED, ALWAYS SERIOUS PERSON BUT I BELIEVE HE HAD A SMILE ON HIS FACE AND “GOOD CHEER” IN HIS HEART! Further, I believe it is God’s will for His people, yes that includes you, to have a smile on our face and “good cheer” in our hearts. Let’s look at Jesus’ “three cheers” to you. {Read More…}

Wealth of Faith

TEXT: Heb. 11:1-2.Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good report –

INTRODUCTION: The word “faith” is used 242 times in the Scriptures; yet it is one of the most neglected doctrines of the Bible.
It is one thing to believe that God CAN; it is quite another to believe that God WILL. This principle is the real test of spiritual faith. Yes, we say we believe God CAN because God is God - and God can do anything. However, to believe that God WILL is faith in practice - predicated, of course, upon His perfect will.
Doubt is of the mind, unbelief is of the will, but faith is of the heart. Someone has said, “if your faith fizzles out before the finish, in all probability it had a flaw from the first.”
Dr. Porter Barrington says, “faith does not make anything easy, but it does make all things possible.”
The wealth of faith involves the –
